How to manage the stresses of starting University

How to manage the stresses of starting University

It’s that time of year when teenagers are finally leaving home and embarking on one of life’s big adventures – starting at University.

It’s an emotional journey for all involved – and sometimes can be stressful.

For the young it means adapting to living in a completely different environment with increased personal responsibility, away from family, making new friends, studying a new subject …

And whilst a new chapter is opening that is going to be full of promise and excitement, the stresses involved can sometimes exacerbate an existing eczema or psoriasis condition.

Prevention in this case can may be better than cure, so it’s worth packing some Dead Sea Bathcare products along with all the other student paraphernalia.

We’d suggest our original Dead Sea Bath Salts – perfect for sinking into after an afternoon’s sport or after a tough day at lectures.

If time is a bit more limited then use Dead Sea Natural Mineral Shower Creme and moisturise afterwards with Dead Sea Body Lotion.

All these products have had excellent reviews by eczema and psoriasis sufferers who have found they really relieved symptoms.

For acne breakouts, our Black Mud Mask Soap has a cult following – and also helps with other skin conditions.

None of our products are expensive, they can all be bought in Boots and are suitable for vegans. They are also chemical free and only contain natural ingredients so users can be reassured they’re only putting natural goodness from the Dead Sea onto their skin .

You can buy all our Dead Sea products online here – browse through.

Even if you don’t suffer from a skin complaint, all our skincare products are wonderful for maintaining a healthy skin and are SLS free and without parabens.

Detoxing. Fact or Fiction?

Detoxing. Fact or Fiction?

Dry January – an alcohol free month – is now behind you and maybe you’re feeling smug in your efforts to ‘detox’ your body after enjoying the feast of food and drink that the Christmas period brings with it.

But is detoxing a real benefit?

Medical experts don’t think so. They point out that a good diet and exercise, avoidance of smoking and drinking in moderation are the only real way to stay healthy.

Says Edzard Ernst, emeritus professor of complementary medicine at Exeter University, ” The healthy body has kidneys, a liver, skin, even lungs that are detoxifying as we speak,” he says. “There is no known way – certainly not through detox treatments – to make something that works perfectly well in a healthy body work better.”

Catherine Collins, an NHS dietician at St George’s Hospital adds, “The ultimate lifestyle ‘detox’ is not smoking, exercising and enjoying a healthy balanced diet like the Mediterranean diet.” Which means you should be sitting down to enjoy foods like meats, fish, olive oil, cheeses, salads, wholegrain cereals, nuts and fruits.

Sounds like life could be a lot more enjoyable post-Christmas after all then.

On the other hand, in our daily lives today we are met with a barrage of chemicals that our bodies have to deal with. So surely it would be a good thing to avoid unnecessary exposure to them in the first place?

Many products designed for skincare contain SLS – sodium lauryl sulfate – which is basically put in them by the manufacturers to create a foamy, sudsy effect that makes you feel you’re cleaning your skin better. SLS can however irritate the eyes and skin and it’s also not great for aquatic life (when it gets washed down the drain). So surely you’re better off avoiding it altogether?

We’re proud to say that all our skincare products –  natural mineral facial wash, soaps, shampoos and conditioners are SLS free – so you can use them happy in the knowledge that you’re not bombarding yourself with chemicals. Our range contains only natural minerals from The Dead Sea.

If you’ve been working out at the gym (well done) you could enjoy a refreshing post-gym shower using our shower gel and know that it’s cleaning your skin naturally, doing the job, without any unnecessary ingredients.

Allergies & Skin Reactions

There’s another good reason to avoid putting chemicals on your skin. Some products have some very strong ingredients that can strip the skin’s natural protection away, resulting in allergic reaction, breakouts and irritation.

And why would you want to put yourself through that?

For example, some acne treatments are very intense and can create more problems than they solve. By contrast, our Black Mud Mask soap has been hailed by acne sufferers to make a real difference to the look of their skin. (You have to use it over a few days to start feeling the effects properly.)

Ditch the Kale & Wheatgrass Juice

Of course, if you really like the taste of cauliflower and kale smoothies then carry on. But if you’d rather eat proper, healthy food that hasn’t been in a juicer or blender, then you don’t need to feel guilty either. Just carry on with the exercise routine or start one.

What do you think? Are you a fan of detoxing or do you just believe in living a healthy lifestyle?

If you’d like to try out our SLS-free products, you’ll find them in Boots. You can buy online or instore and prices start at just £3.75  for our Black Mud Mask soap.

What have you got to lose? (Except the chemical exposure.)

Should We Be One Of Your New Year Resolutions?

Should We Be One Of Your New Year Resolutions?

Looking good, feeling great

It’s a cliché, but if you feel good, then you’re likely to glow from the inside out and look your best as a result. Maybe that’s why brides always seem to have a beautiful glow on their wedding days!

But what if you find that your skin tends to let you down?

If you have a condition like eczema, psoriasis or acne then it’s hard to feel great on the inside when you don’t feel you look your best.

Which is where we’d like to help you

Our products are all 100% natural and have helped many sufferers of skin conditions. Some acne sufferers wouldn’t be without our cult Black Mud Mask soap. Many teenagers put far too many astringent chemicals on their skin in the hope of making it clearer but in many cases all this does is exacerbate the problem causing redness and dryness. Far better to use something that’s more natural that won’t stir up trouble.

We’re delighted to report that irritating conditions like scalp psoriasis have also been eased by products like our conditioner.

teenagers with good skin

Clear, unblemished skin is a real mission for many teenagers who suffer from acne

The waters of the Dead Sea have long been a source of relief to sufferers of skin complaints, rheumatism and arthritis. Now of course, in an ideal world, you’d have a special tap in your bathroom that ran water direct from the Dead Sea so that you could soak up its benefits whenever you wanted.

Obviously, that’s not a practical solution but choosing a Dead Sea product you can soak in, lather onto your skin or wash your hair with is an easy way forward.

If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, you can be very comfortable using our products as they contain no animal fats at all. Also no parabens and are sls free, so you’re also looking after your skin without resorting to chemicals.

Rather than creating fancy packaging and paying supermodels to promote our products, we’ve always preferred to let them speak for themselves. And if you look at some of the write-ups and reviews by the Financial Times and various magazines, as well as our loyal customers, you’ll see why.

You might like to start off by trying our Natural Mineral Soap which you can buy in Boots for just £3.75 or maybe our Natural Mineral Shower Cream at £7.79.

It could be a whole new start for your skincare routine – see what a difference we make to your skin  in 2015.
